A READY-TO-RUN CREATURE MISSION

Turn one real space clue into a whole new life-form.

A free, adult-led activity for families, classrooms, libraries and clubs. Young designers observe real NASA material, imagine a realm with impossible rules, build the organism that could survive there, then test their idea.

MISSION CONTROL

One mission. Five clear moves.

The aim is not to draw the prettiest alien. It is to make a strange idea that has reasons behind it.

  1. 01 · 5-10 MINStudy a real observation

Choose a NASA picture or learning page. Write down what is actually visible before anyone invents an explanation.

  2. 02 · 5 MINChange the rules

Give the fictional realm three strange laws. Perhaps sound forms crystals, gravity points sideways or shadows store energy.

  3. 03 · 15-20 MINBuild for survival

Design from needs, not familiar animals. Decide how the organism moves, senses, finds energy and communicates.

  4. 04 · 10 MINApply pressure

Remove its energy source or reverse a realm rule. Predict what changes first and explain the cost of its best ability.

  5. 05 · 10 MINMake the story choice

The Void has distorted the organism. What clue shows it may be frightened, and how could the player restore it?

SHORT ON TIME?

Run a 20-minute discovery sprint.

Use one screen, one sheet of paper and one bold question. This works well as a library table, club warm-up or family activity.

1
Notice

Open one credited NASA image or learning page. Ask for three things everyone can actually see.

2
Imagine

Choose one impossible realm rule. Ask what kind of living system could survive it.

3
Defend

Sketch the organism. Each young designer explains one adaptation and one tradeoff.

CLEAR BOUNDARIES

Curiosity without collecting children’s data.

The activity is designed so an adult can lead it without asking children to register, submit work or contact the studio.

01

Keep work with the group

Children’s names, drawings, school details and contact information do not need to leave the room.

02

Adults lead sharing

If a group chooses to share an idea later, an adult should remove names, faces, voices, school and location details first.

03

Label fact and fiction

Real space material keeps its source and credit. Creatures, realms and story responses are visibly fictional.

04

No AI tool required

The session works with paper, discussion and imagination. Children are not asked to use a generative AI service.

QUICK QUESTIONS

Know what you are bringing to the group.

Does every child need a device or account?

No. A group can use one adult-controlled screen for the space clue or game. The printable activity needs no account, email address or student login.

Is this an official NASA activity?

No. It is an independent Mythical Void activity that points to credited NASA public material. NASA does not endorse Mythical Void.

Does the activity require AI tools?

No. Children can complete it with observation, discussion, paper and a pencil. AI helped our small father-and-son studio explore and build parts of Mythical Void, but it is not required for this session.

What is in the game?

The current early-access adventure includes exploration, creature care, puzzles, story choices and family-friendly fantasy battles without gore. This is a description, not a formal age rating.

Can I use this in a school or library?

The activity is free to download and use with a group. Please keep the Mythical Void and NASA credits visible, do not imply NASA endorsement, and use your organisation’s own safeguarding and technology rules.
